NBN satisfies need for speed

NBN has promised faster internet speeds for rural and regional towns with its fixed wireless network.

NBN Co is nearing the end of the completion of the $750 million Fixed Wireless Upgrade Program that is boosting speed capability, enhancing capacity and extending the reach of the NBN Fixed Wireless network to benefit more than 750,000 homes and small businesses across regional, remote and peri-urban Australia.

Over the past two years NBN Co has been upgrading more than 2300 of its Fixed Wireless towers with next generation 4G and 5G mm Wave technology and software enhancements and offering upgrades of antennas on customer premises to offer more range, more speed and more capacity on the NBN Fixed Wireless network.

Regional Australians are using more data than ever. Together with the Federal Government, NBN Co is evolving the fixed wireless network — so more people can enjoy even better broadband.

More than 750,000 homes and business across Australia are now able to access faster speeds, and we have also rolled out two new high-speed plans in eligible upgraded locations, via participating providers

This means more Australian homes and businesses can now enjoy the positive transformation of faster wholesale NBN Fixed Wireless network speeds and decreased latency.

Upgrades to the fixed wireless network is being enabled by a $750 million investment — including $480 million from the Federal Government and an additional $270 million from NBN Co.

The NBN network delivers fast and secure broadband through a range of providers to more than 12.5 million Australians every day.

The network carries around 80 per cent of the country’s data traffic.
