To celebrate youth, diversity and the LGBTQIA+ community, Seymour College wore it purple.
Students and staff stunned in purple face paint and clothes, tutus and wigs, on Friday, August 29, having a celebration on campus with music, dancing and, of course, purple cupcakes.
The day was led by the school’s vocational major students, creating a welcoming environment for self-expression.
“Staff and students came together in purple to share the important message that support should never equal a label,” VM co-ordinator Lisa Macheras said.
“Too often, young people hesitate to stand up for their LGBTQIA+ peers out of fear others will make assumptions.
“This shows the work still ahead of us — to build a school culture where acceptance is the norm and every student feels safe and included.
“The day was full of colour and fun, with cupcakes kindly donated by Brewers Table, along with a photo booth, ribbons, face paint, silly string, purple hairspray and plenty of music pumping through the school.”
Over the recess break, students from the secondary school and inclusive education came together for the event, all to celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community.
“A huge thank-you to everyone who joined in and showed their support,” Ms Macheras said.
“Let’s keep the spirit of Wear It Purple Day alive all year round.”
