‘I’m a little nervous’: First-time voter unsure ahead of election

Shepparton votes 2022: First-time voter Madison Brown was nervous before casting her ballot on Saturday.

Shepparton voters have waited patiently to cast their ballot, with Shepparton residents speaking to The News at the Kialla West Primary School booth.

First-time voter Madison Brown said she felt unsure on who to vote for.

“I’m a little nervous, I don’t really know what’s going on,” Ms Brown said.

“I have seen the ads on the TV, but I haven’t really looked into it too much.”

She said the younger generation are not as politically aware as her older counterparts.

“For the younger generation, they’re probably not as aware of that sort of stuff that we could be, we might need to just pay more attention,” she said.

Her father Jason Brown said he wants more emphasis put on critical infrastructure funding, including roads.

Shepparton Votes 2022: Jason Brown said there needs to be more regional infrastructure funding.

“Funding towards our local roads, local rail that sort of infrastructure,” Mr Brown said.

“It’s pretty evident that our local roads need some additional funding.

“I guess we support a government that has realistic views for funding for regional Victoria.”

He said he wants his vote to goes towards a positive path that will support Victoria.

Suzanna Sheed volunteer Tony Villani said all he hopes is the voters do the right thing by the electorate.

“All we ask is that whoever is elected, does the right thing by the electorate and does whatever has been asked of them, by the people that have voted them in,” Mr Villani said.
