The Herefords Australia National Sale at Dubbo has hit a new record top price of $120,000.
Sale committee chair Andrew Rayner was pleased with the sale result.
“Considering three years ago there was a lot of people saying the sale wouldn’t continue, we have definitely figured out we have a place in the industry,” Mr Rayner said.
The hefty top price was paid for the Grand Champion Bull, The Ranch Remington R028.
The August 2020 drop son of New Zealand sire Koanui Techno 3062 was bought in partnership by Melville Hereford & Poll Herefords and Bowen Poll Herefords.
David Lyons from Melville Hereford & Poll Herefords confirmed there had already been plenty of semen interest in the bull.
John Settree from Nutrien Livestock Dubbo confirmed the new record price for a Hereford bull.
“For Greg and Del Rees (The Ranch) to be rewarded with $120,000 was a big tick for their program, and showed other studs are watching them,” Mr Settree said.
“We had commercial buyers from Warren, Nyngan, Dubbo and Wellington, and bulls sold into Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.”
“In the females, the better heifers were rewarded at $8000 to $12,000 — they were a good opportunity to add or start a program.”
Second top price was $42,000 for a son of Kanimbla Prospector M086, from Ironbark Glen Poll Herefords.
The sale’s average was $13,129 — eclipsing the previous record of $11,042 set in 2021.
