Nine occupants of an Archer St house in Shepparton had to be rescued by firefighters after the home caught fire early on the morning of Tuesday, December 19.

Fire Rescue Victoria said it responded to the fire at 5.04am after multiple calls to Triple Zero (000).

Crews arrived at the scene four minutes later to find the single-storey house fully alight, and reports of people trapped inside.

FRV said all people were evacuated safely and the fire brought under control within 10 minutes.

Crews used breathing apparatuses during the incident and asbestos procedures were followed.

A fire investigation unit attended the scene with police detectives and determined that the cause of the fire was accidental and the mostly source was the downlights.
