The fire danger period for Moira Shire will finish at 1am on Monday, April 3.
However, the CFA is warning that the risk of grass fires is still prevalent.
CFA north east deputy chief officer Ross Sullivan said completion of harvest and more moderate weather conditions in the area had led to the decision to end the fire danger period.
“Due to the cool, damp weather conditions we’re currently experiencing through autumn, and following consultation with our partner agencies, we feel it’s the right time to end the fire danger periods in these regions,” he said.
However, Mr Sullivan is warning against complacency.
“It is, however, still possible for fires to start and cause significant damage, so landowners should continue to remain vigilant and assess conditions ahead of fire use,” he said.
“We’re urging everyone to stay safe, whether you’re living in or travelling to high bushfire risk areas.”
With the easing of restrictions, burn-offs will be allowed; however, Mr Sullivan said it was crucial residents checked local conditions were safe and registered their intended burn-off with the CFA before commencement.
“You must register your burn-offs, check the weather forecast and follow local council laws and regulations,” Mr Sullivan said.
“Registering your burn-off ensures that if smoke or fire is reported, the incident is cross checked with our register, which prevents firefighters from unnecessarily responding.”
Mr Sullivan said those conducting burn-offs should also notify neighbours beforehand and must have resources available to put out any fires.
Burn-offs should never be left unattended.
Landowners can register their burn-off at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au or call 1800 668 51.
