A wealth of farm business experience and local knowledge places Dhurringile dairy farmer Phil Lang in an opportune position to harness his skills and perspective on the Murray Dairy board.
Mr Lang’s application for a co-opted director position was endorsed by the board, effective immediately.
Speaking on his appointment, Mr Lang said he was enthusiastic to join Murray Dairy in a director capacity, continuing a long involvement with Murray Dairy that spans close to two decades.
“I came home to the family farm in 2006,” Mr Lang said.
“It was drought conditions, no water, no feed. Bad milk price, no money.
“That’s where I started, and the rules of the game changed very fast. We had to learn quickly.
“The start of my career I learned a lot from Murray Dairy/Dairy Australia discussion groups and different workshops and information days. That was a key part of my development as a farm owner.”
Now Mr Lang, who milks 2000 cows with his brother, is looking to return the favour by leaning on his experience to help represent the local dairy industry.
“It’s my chance to give back, to help shape the future of what we’re doing and to give back to other people in the industry.
“We need a strong industry around us, it’s good for everybody.
“Networking, meeting people, getting out and about and seeing new ideas and engaging more widely across the industry is something I look forward to.”
