The Deniliquin Debutante Ball is officially back in 2024.
Based on interest shown at the end of 2023, event coordinator Peata Smith has confirmed 19 young women and their partners will make their debut on April 6.
Training starts this coming Monday evening, and the couples will practice two nights a week in the lead up to the big night.
Assisting Mrs Smith will be Leanne Varty and Rachel Butcher.
Mrs Smith said while the dates have been set, some of the details relating to the event are yet to be decided.
“I want the young people doing the deb to have input on the remaining decisions,“ she said.
“This will include colour schemes, and who the charitable beneficiaries will be for any profit the ball makes outside running costs.
“This is very much their ball, so I want their input.”
It’s been at least 20 years since Mrs Smith has been actively involved in Deniliquin debutante balls.
She agreed to take on the coordinator role after long time coordinator Vicky Ackers stepped away from the role in 2022.
Mrs Smith and Mrs Varty both have previous experience with ballroom and Latin American dancing, and will take on the roles of dance instructors.
Mrs Butcher will assist in an administration role.
