Greater Shepparton City Council has announced when residents will see changes to their kerbside bin collection.

Weekly green bin and fortnightly red bin collection will be rolled out in Kialla from March 16 and Tatura from March 22, before it is introduced to the rest of Greater Shepparton from September.

The new collection frequency is being rolled out in Kialla and Tatura first so council can address any issues before it goes municipality-wide.

The changes aim to reduce the amount of food and garden organics waste ending up in landfill — aligning with the Victorian Government’s target of diverting 80 per cent of waste from landfill by 2030.

The yellow recycling bin will continue being collected fortnightly, on alternate weeks to the red general waste bin.

In March 2024, a purple-lid glass bin will be introduced and will be collected monthly.
