Celebrations marking this year’s Victorian Seniors Festival are underway throughout Gannawarra Shire Council, with events yet to come.

Partnering with Northern District Community Health and neighbourhood houses, the council is supporting various festival events to encourage positive ageing.

Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said local Seniors Festival celebrations had grown in popularity each year.

The festival gives the council an opportunity to thank senior residents for their contributions to the region, and develop a program in partnership with other groups.

“This year’s program reflects the festival’s theme of Connect, Create, Celebrate, with events enabling residents to socialise and celebrate where we live,” Mr Rollinson said.

Fourteen events are yet to be held over the next three weeks, including:

  • A Crafting and Morning Tea event at Cohuna Library on Wednesday, October 15 from 10.30am.
  • The Leitchville Seniors Celebrations at the Leitchville Memorial Hall on Thursday, October 16 from 1pm.
  • The Seniors’ Creekside Lunch at Tree Tops Scout Camp on Monday, October 20 from noon.
  • Six NDCH-organised Social Meals sessions, planned for venues across the region throughout the remainder of the month.
