Congupna Primary School student takes out Greater Shepparton story writing competition

Success: Congupna Primary School principal Adam Cleary and Cr Geoff Dobson present Year 5 student Asim Ismet with his award for winning the 2022 Greater Shepparton story writing competition.

The 2022 Greater Shepparton story writing competition for Year 5 and 6 students was taken out by Congupna Primary School’s Asim Ismet.

The Year 5 student’s winning book — titled What Is Your Superpower? — had appealing illustrations, engaging content and imaginative thinking, according to the panel of judges.

The book will be included in the local book bag program for 12 months and handed out to children attending their three-and-a-half-year maternal and child health visit.

The book competition is an initiative of the Greater Shepparton Early Years Language work group, which is part of Greater Shepparton City Council’s Best Start program.

The work group wanted to include a local story as part of the book bag program and to celebrate young local talent.

Council manager of early years Sally Rose said the ninth edition of the writing competition had 30 entries — and all were creative and colourful.

Congupna Primary School also received a $100 voucher to purchase books.

In addition, Asim received a special certificate, and 30 copies of his book will be placed in the Shepparton Library for the community to read.
