Benalla Highway Patrol detects 17 drug-drivers in one month

Benalla Police are concerned with the number of drug impaired drivers in and around the Rose City.

In the past month, police from the Benalla Highway Patrol have detected 17 drivers under the influence of illicit drugs within the Benalla CBD and surrounding areas.

This type of behaviour presents a serious risk to the safety of all road users.

Victoria Police maintains a zero-tolerance approach to drug driving and will continue to conduct proactive enforcement across the region.

Drivers found to be impaired by drugs can expect a range of significant penalties, including:

  • A $611 infringement notice and 6-month licence suspension
  • A court summons, with potential for additional fines and licence loss periods
  • Having their vehicle impounded
