Greater Shepparton City Council has taken action to ensure that the mulch it uses at various sites around the municipality is not contaminated with asbestos.

Asbestos has been found at dozens of sites in Queensland, NSW and Victoria in recent weeks.

In many cases, the asbestos was discovered in mulch at children’s playgrounds.

Greater Shepparton City Council has approached its mulch supplier and been assured that none of its supplies have been contaminated.

Council said the supplier is certified and has been supplying and installing pine playground mulch since 2009.

It said the product supplied had always been to a high standard and free of contaminants.
