Dairy Farmers full cream milk which was manufactured in western Sydney is being pulled from shelves across NSW over fears it's contaminated with bacteria.

The manufacturer of the milk, Lion Dairy & Drinks, issued the recall on Thursday over concerns the one and three litre full cream milk manufactured at its Penrith site was contaminated with E.coli.

"This may cause illness if the product is consumed," the company said in a statement.E.coli is a type of bacteria which can cause diarrhoea, vomiting and urinary tract infections. Serious cases can cause pneumonia and meningitis in newborn babies.

The recall does not impact any other Dairy Farmers products made in NSW or in any other states, Lion Dairy & Drinks said. The warning applies to the Dairy Farmers three litre full cream milk with a use- by date of February 24 and the one litre full cream milk which has a use-by date of February 25.

Lion Dairy & Drinks says while there have been no consumer complaints to date people should dispose of the milk and call the company for a refund."Customers can be assured that we are undertaking a thorough investigation and will put in place steps to mitigate it happening again," the company said.
