A police officer has died after being shot during a violent confrontation in South Australia.
The officer and his colleagues went to a property on Senior Road near the Victorian border in the state's southeast at about 11.20pm on Thursday to investigate an incident.
They were confronted by an armed man and the officer was shot.
His colleagues and paramedics attempted to save him but he died at the scene.
Another officer was also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Adelaide for treatment.
A third police officer was uninjured.
South Australia Police said the male suspect was shot by police and sustained serious life-threatening injuries.
He was treated at the scene before being flown to Adelaide for treatment where he remains under guard.
Major crime detectives, forensic response and internal investigation officers were still at the scene on Friday.
