A 45-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in her home.

Emergency services found the body of a 32-year-old woman at a house in the regional town of Cobram, in northern Victoria, about 5am on Tuesday.

Two young children were also at the home at the time but were not injured, Victoria Police said.

Homicide squad detectives charged the Cobram man with one count of murder on Wednesday.

The man faced Shepparton Magistrates Court and did not apply for bail.

He is set to face court again on December 10.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said officers would speak with the children to understand what unfolded at the home.

"Their wellbeing is number one, and making sure they're OK and they're being looked after and provided support that they need," he told reporters.

Det Insp Thomas said the man was known to police and confirmed the pair knew each other but declined to go into any detail.
