A man in his 20s, allegedly armed with a knife, has been shot dead by police in Airlie Beach in the Queensland Whitsunday region.
Police say the man approached officers on Shute Harbour Road early on Saturday.
It's alleged he threatened them, advanced, and was then shot.
The officers at the scene provided first aid with the man taken to the Proserpine Hospital. He died soon after.
A crime scene has been established and inquiries are continuing.
The incident will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
