A bushfire that was threatening homes southeast of Perth has been contained.

A watch and act warning was in place for people in an area bounded by Eleventh Avenue, Forrest Road, Tonkin Highway and Rowley Road in Hilbert in the City of Armadale.

Emergency WA on Sunday said the unpredictable blaze was a possible threat to lives and homes, but the warning has now been downgraded to advice level.

There is still a lot of smoke in the area and while there is no immediate danger authorities have warned people to keep up to date in case the situation changes.

There is also bushfire advice for parts of Haynes, and Armadale in the City of Armadale while Forrestdale has been given the all clear.
