A man and a woman faces charges after an investigation into child sexual abuse and bestiality.

South Australian detectives allege the case involves a profound violation of community standards and expectations.

Officers investigating online child exploitation material raided a home in Adelaide's northern suburbs on Wednesday.

A review of electronic devices identified child exploitation offences and the occupants engaging in bestiality, SA police allege.

The occupants were also allegedly using the premises as a brothel.

A 39-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were each charged with bestiality and ill treatment of an animal.

The man was also charged with possessing child exploitation material and managing a brothel.

They were granted bail to appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.

Further electronic devices were seized for analysis.

Detective Chief Inspector George Fenwick said the arrests followed an investigation by specialist detectives who were committed to protecting children from those who seek to exploit and abuse children online.

"These allegations represent a heinous and blatant breach of the law and a profound violation of community standards and expectations," he said.

"We will continue to work with our partners to identify, investigate and prosecute anyone who seeks to exploit or harm those in the community who cannot protect themselves."

The operation involved officers from the SA Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, who were assisted by the RSPCA.
