Care Bears have been knitted with love for more than 20 years by the Country Women’s Association Group.

The group’s purpose is to spread hope and joy to children going through difficult times, and they are given out by hospitals and emergency services all over the region.

However, after a conversation between a teacher at Sacred Heart School in Tatura and the co-ordinator of Rodney Junior CWA Group Lyn Trezise, the bears have now found another purpose.

They will become a part of the school buddy systems in both Tatura Primary Schools.

“It’s such a lovely idea,” Lyn said.

“At the beginning of next year, when the Preps start their schooling years, they will be assigned a Year 6 buddy who will gift them one.

“We are excited for the students to receive them, and we hope they bring comfort, are something they can hold close and will help them throughout their transition.”

Thirty colourful knitted Buddy Bears have been delivered to Tatura Primary School and 42 to the Sacred Heart School.

Care Bears will remain in local hospitals and continue being given out by the emergency services.

The bears will now serve two purposes, and is another lovely initiative giving more children a reason to smile.
