FOR THE FIRST TIME AT CLUBARHAM, A NEW BOWLS VICTORIA EVENT REPLACES THE PREVIOUS OVER ’60s STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS — 060 STATE CARNIVAL

Instead of only 16 bowlers participating, 060 State Carnival will enable hundreds of bowlers to participate in multiple events over seven days to win a state title and part of a $10,000 prize pool.

“Bowls Victoria O60 State Carnival is one of two state-level events we have secured for 2024 until 2026, with the other one being the Women’s Country Carnival Bowls, in October, which is secured until 2026,” cluBarham club manager Joshua Forster said.

“The over 60s Bowls Victoria state championship, the 060 State Carnival, is starting on May 20 and running through to May 26,” Joshua said.

“We expect 800 players across the week, plus their partners, to stay in the region and play in the bowls carnival.

“The O60 State Carnival and Women’s Country Carnival will occupy all bowls greens in the region.”

Bowlers can participate in up to three events and three supporter events, including mixed pairs, singles, and men’s and women’s Pairs.

060 State Carnival is restricted to bowlers who are members of a Bowls Victoria-affiliated club.

“We have had excellent support from the local clubs in the area that are part of the Northern District playing area group,” Joshua said.

“It is fantastic for the club and the region to bring that number of people to the area and start to secure larger sports events, firstly with the O60 State Carnival at cluBarham and then hopefully bigger and better things in the future.

“We will have a high level of volunteers from the bowling clubs in the Northern District playing area association, as well as from our own.

“We expect a large number of spectators, family and friends.”

Entries will be available soon on the Bowls Victoria website, and when available, cluBarham will also share with everyone.
