Collins Booksellers has you sorted for all your Mother’s Day gifting needs. Helen Sofra from Collins Booksellers Shepparton has put together her top five reads that your mum will love.

1. Beatrix Bakes Another Slice by Natalie Paul, RRP $50

Following on from the successful Beatrix Bakes, Natalie’s new book promises just as many delectable treats to bake for the ones you love. With tips and tricks and of course lots of new recipes including Lemon Cream Tart, and my personal favourite, Cocoa Sour Cream Layer Cake, this book will be your go-to again and again.

2. The Mistress of Dara Island by Averil Kenny, RRP $32.99

Tahlia “Tally” Ramsey has grown up wild and free on Dara Island now home to a honeymoon resort for the rich and famous. Tally’s future to one day take over from her mother as mistress of the island looks in doubt due to constant conflict with her fearsome father. After a disappearance on the island, Tally embarks on a desperate search that will challenge all her ideas about herself, her home and the people she loves.

3. Sister Viv by Grantlee Kieza, RRP $35.99

Vivian Bullwinkle was a truly inspiring woman. At the age of 23 she was the sole survivor of a massacre that killed 21 of her fellow nurses. When the war ended, Vivian returned home a hero, but her feats didn’t end there. She became an advocate for all nurses raising education standards and making sure the profession was given the respect and admiration it deserved. Vivian is the only woman to have a statue at the War Memorial in Canberra and was bestowed many accolades in her lifetime, but her motivation was to always live her life in honour of those nurses who didn’t return.

4. You Are Here by David Nicholls, RRR $32.99, Hachette

Marnie is stuck in a rut and Michael is in need of a quiet holiday to process what’s just happened in his life, but when a persistent mutual friend and some very English weather conspire to bring them together, they suddenly find themselves alone on an epic coast-to-coast walk. The writing is witty and at times laugh out loud funny and you’ll warm to the two main characters and find yourself rushing through the book to see what happens, but then not wanting it to end. Maybe you do have to get lost to find yourself.

5. Mothering Heights by Rachael Mogan McIntosh, RRP $34.99, Affirm Press

I think the cover of Rachael’s book perfectly portrays what you’ll find inside. A warts and all memoir of the highs and lows of early parenthood, the laughter, the pain and the cringe-worthy moments we all suffer at the hands of our children. Rachael has a warmth and empathy to her writing that reminds all of us don’t take yourself too seriously, you’re doing a great job and always try and find the humour in everything.

Here at BETTY we have one copy each of Sister Viv, Mothering Heights and Mistress of Dara Island to give away thanks to Collins Booksellers.
