Farmers, agronomists and industry leaders will converge on Kerang on Thursday, September 18, for the Spring Research Field Day, hosted by the Irrigation Farmers Network.

The event is a cornerstone for irrigated cropping innovation, offering a hands-on look at the latest research, technology and crop variety performance.

This year’s program will spotlight IFN’s long-term trials project designed to help growers respond to seasonal variability and climate challenges with adaptable strategies that protect profitability, the irrigation scheduling trial and milling oats.

IFN research manager Damian Jones will present findings that show how farmers can adapt their systems to stay resilient and responsive.

A major drawcard is the irrigated variety trials, which provide exclusive insights into crop performance under irrigation.

Leading seed companies including AGT, Pioneer Seeds, Intergrain, Pacific Seeds, LongReach Plant Breeders, NuSeed, Seednet, BASF and RAGT will be on hand to share trial results and help growers make informed variety selections.

IFN general manager Matthew O’Farrell said the event reflected the network’s commitment to practical, farmer-led research

“This field day is about putting research into the hands of farmers to help their businesses become more productive and profitable,” he said.

“It’s a chance to walk through the trials, talk directly with researchers and seed representatives, and take home insights that can be applied immediately on-farm.”

The event has a morning (9am to 12pm) and afternoon session (1pm to 4pm), with the Kerang Lions providing a barbecue lunch at 12pm for both groups.

It will be held at the IFN Research Centre, 407 Kerang Koondrook Rd, Kerang.
