A lower-than-usual impact grading has led to Gold Coast utility Sam Clohesy being handed just a two-match AFL ban over the dangerous tackle that concussed GWS winger Ryan Angwin.

And Clohesy's Suns teammate Ben Long has escaped with two separate fines for striking and misconduct after a fiery altercation with Giants recruit Clayton Oliver.

Clohesy was charged with rough conduct over his tackle on Angwin during Gold Coast's 20-point win at People First Stadium on Sunday.

Angwin had one arm free in the tackle when he was driven into the ground and hit his head on the turf.

The 23-year-old was helped to his feet by Giants trainers and jogged off the field, but was soon ruled out with concussion.

The AFL match review officer (MRO) felt Clohesy had breached his duty of care to Angwin, but graded the incident as "high" impact instead of the usual "severe" rating.

"Whilst a careless act causing a concussion will usually be graded as severe impact, in assessing the incident it was the view of the MRO that there are factors relevant to impact that are more consistent with a lesser impact grading," the AFL said in a statement.

Gold Coast forward Long can accept a pair of separate $1000 fines after his clash with Oliver in the same game.

Long gave away a free-kick for holding-the-man before the pair wrestled and Oliver fell to the ground.

Long touched his opponent's face while he was on his back and then struck Oliver with an open hand after he had stood up.

Meanwhile, Sydney ruck star Brodie Grundy was not cited over his off-the-ball contact with Melbourne's Latrelle Pickett.

After a Demons goal, Grundy threw out an arm that connected with Pickett, and the first-year forward went down clutching his stomach.

Pickett was attended to by club medical staff but played out the match.
