Camp popular with kids

PARADING, JUDGING and clipping — it was all happening at Noorat last month as part of the largest Western District Youth Camp in recent years.

The three-day camp had 54 participants and concentrated on building the skills of the next generation. Topics covered included: team work, animal husbandry, animal nutrition, public speaking, clipping, handling and careers in the dairy industry.

This was the fourth — but third major camp — organised by Western Districts Dairy Youth volunteers.

One of the five organisers, Fiona Hanks said the event had created so much interest there was even a waiting-list this year.

The camp was open to children from eight to 16 years old.
