Young dairy call

YOUNG DAIRY farmers and those new to the industry are being encouraged to join the Young Dairy Network and set a strategy for the future.

The Murray Dairy group — which provides technical information, industry support and social opportunities for young people and newer entrants into the dairy industry — is seeking new additions to its steering committee, made up of farmer and service provider representatives from across the region.

In 2018, the steering committee started to develop a new strategy for Young Dairy Network involving workshopping current opportunities and challenges for the industry and network, identifying areas of success and for improvement, and surveying young farmers and service providers to hear about their involvement with YDN and what they would like to see in the future.

Murray Dairy is looking for passionate young people who would like to gain some skills and experience in the development of strategy, governance, communication and/or leadership.

The steering committee meets once every two months for a half-day meeting, with the location rotating around the region.

Committee members are expected to attend a minimum of half the meetings each year and are remunerated for their time.

Steering committee members also nominate for sub-committees for some of YDN’s larger projects, which requires an extra two to four hours a year.

Committee members are involved in discussion groups, events and tours of their choosing.
