No show threat for Nathalia

Nathalia’s century-old agricultural show is in danger of falling through this year unless more people come forward to help.

Show president Dylan Morris said the next meeting, to be held on June 9, would be make or break for the society.

The committee was planning to resume running shows in October this year, after a two-year break due to COVID-19.

Mr Morris, who is also the chief cattle steward, has not actually seen a show since he joined the committee two years ago.

“We really need a few more people to help out, otherwise, this is it,” he told Country News.

“It will be a great pity as we have some ideas to make it something different and better this year.”

He acknowledged that groups that run rural events like agricultural shows were finding it harder to recruit volunteers, and the disruption due to COVID-19 hadn’t helped in recent years.

“We’re prepared to look at making some changes if it’s going to encourage more people to participate.”
